Zapata, Emiliano

'Emiliano Zapata (1879-1919) led the Mexican Revolution, which took place from 1910 to 1920. He mobilized thousands of peasants, who eventually took power, and undertook the first Latin-American agrarian reform' (Fernandes, Bernardo Mançano e Stedile, João Pedro. Brava gente: a trajetória do MST e a luta pela terra no Brasil. São Paulo: Editora Fundação Perseu Abramo, 1999, p. 61, n. 23).
