'Francisco Julião (1915-1999), of Pernambuco, was the first lawyer of the peasants who organized in leagues in the mills. He was elected federal representative by the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB), led the Peasant Leagues, as their main public spokesman. Considered a brilliant orator, he aligned himself with the more moderate sectors.
