Entry:

Frei Tito de Alencar Lima

‘Dominican Friar, born in Fortaleza in 1945. While he studied philosophy and sociology at the University of São Paulo, he became involved in the human and Christian problems of the students … Accused of subversive activity, he suffered the most terrible tortures and atrocities. Banned from the country in January, 1971, he went to Chile, then to Italy and finally France. In spite of the careful treatment he received, he was unable to recover and committed suicide in the woods around the convent on August 10, 1974’ (Calendário Histórico dos Trabalhadores.
