4th National Congress of the MST

‘Took place in Brasília, DF, August 7-11, 2000. At this event, the MST reaffirmed some of its principles, which characterize it as the best organized peasant movement of Brazil. Among the commitments that were reaffirmed are: to struggle for land by means of occupations and strengthen the organization of the Movement; to contribute to the strengthening of other peasant movements, such as the MPA [Movement of Small Farmers]; to fight against the agricultural economic model that has its basis the development of transgenic plants; to develop policies to build a new technological model for agriculture; to mainatain the debate on important questions respecting biodiversity, water, and agrarian reform’ (Fernandes, Bernardo Mançano.
